What is AI marketing?
AI marketing is the use of artificial intelligence tools and techniques, such as predictive analytics, automated content generation, and machine-learning-driven ad targeting, to plan, create, personalise, or optimise marketing activities, generally with the goal of making decisions faster and more precisely than manual analysis alone could achieve. This spans a wide range of applications, from AI-powered ad platforms that automatically adjust bids in real time based on predicted conversion likelihood, to generative AI tools that draft ad copy or social captions, to recommendation engines that personalise which products a specific customer sees.
What unifies these applications is the use of pattern recognition across large datasets, something that would be impractical to do manually, to make marketing decisions more responsive to individual customer behaviour rather than relying on broad, static segments.
AI marketing tools generally still require human oversight and strategic direction, since the algorithms optimise toward whatever goal and data they’re given, meaning poor input (unclear goals, biased or incomplete data) produces poor output regardless of how sophisticated the underlying AI model is.
