What is a website’s user journey?
A website user journey is the sequence of steps a visitor takes while trying to achieve a goal. The journey may begin before the person reaches the website, for example with a Google search, an advertisement, a social post, a recommendation, or an AI-generated answer. It continues through the landing page, navigation, content, forms, checkout, confirmation, and any follow-up communication.
Mapping the journey helps a business understand what the visitor needs at each stage. A first-time visitor may need a clear explanation and trust signals, while a returning visitor may want pricing, availability, or a quick contact option. A journey map identifies entry points, questions, emotions, decisions, barriers, and actions. It can reveal friction such as unclear menus, missing information, unexpected costs, long forms, slow pages, or calls to action that appear too early.
There may be several journeys on one website because different audiences have different goals. ViralBulls prioritises the journeys that matter most to the business and designs pages around them. A strong journey feels natural: each step answers the next likely question, reduces uncertainty, and helps the visitor progress without feeling forced or lost.
