Is influencer marketing only for large brands?

Influencer Marketing 1 min read Updated September 17, 2026

No, influencer marketing is accessible to small businesses as well, since nano and micro influencers typically charge far less than macro or celebrity-tier creators, and some work on product-only ‘gifting’ arrangements rather than requiring cash payment at all, making the channel viable even on a modest marketing budget. Local and niche small businesses in particular often see strong results working with nano influencers in their specific city or niche community, since these smaller creators frequently have highly engaged, geographically or topically relevant audiences that a large macro influencer, despite bigger overall reach, couldn’t target as precisely.

Small businesses can also benefit from lower competition for these smaller creators’ attention compared with the crowded inbox of a macro influencer who receives many brand pitches daily, meaning a well-targeted, personalised outreach from a small brand can secure a partnership that a larger brand might overlook as too small-scale to prioritise.

The main trade-off for small businesses working exclusively with nano or micro influencers is reach: individual campaigns won’t generate the broad awareness a single macro influencer post might, so small-budget influencer strategies typically rely on partnering with several smaller creators simultaneously rather than one large partnership.
